    The international conference on the topic “Be active in preventing violence against women and children!” under the motto “16 days against gender-based violence”, organized by the Family and Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan, was attended by the Chairperson of the Women’s Advisory Council of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Professor Etibor Sultanova.

    The forum was attended by the staff of the UN office Sabine Machl, Nigina Abaszade and Ceren Güven Güres, Senators, representatives of the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Employment of Uzbekistan, scientists, international experts, activists, as well as media representatives.

    The conference was opened by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairperson of the Family and Women’s Committee Zulaykho Makhkamova.

    The speakers were unanimous in the fact that our country is carrying out systematic work to support and protect women, as well as interdepartmental cooperation between state and non-governmental organizations. It was emphasized that legal bodies and psychological centers are actively involved in preventing violence.

    The speakers paid special attention to the importance of education for women and girls, as well as their employment and assistance in entrepreneurship.

    It was noted that the National Agency for Social Protection will train workers of preventive services to provide assistance to vulnerable families and women in difficult life situations.

    By the resolution of the UN General Assembly of December 17, 1999, November 25 was declared the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

    In this regard, every year from November 25 to December 10, various events are held around the world, including in our country, under the motto "16 days against gender-based violence".
