    Mission

    UWED’s mission is to educate and develop highly qualified professionals in international economics, international relations, and international law through high-quality, practice-oriented education grounded in international best practices and innovative teaching. The University equips students with advanced analytical capabilities, applied skills, and a strong sense of professional ethics and civic responsibility. In doing so, the University prepares graduates who develop and apply the professional competencies required for effective professional practice in diplomacy and economic diplomacy, in international economic relations and global trade, in legal practice, and in public administration, contributing to the advancement of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy priorities and sustainable international development.

    UWED serves as a platform for lifelong learning and professional development, strengthening the country’s pool of qualified specialists for ministries and agencies, the private sector, and international organizations.     The University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) is one of Uzbekistan’s leading specialised higher education institutions in international relations, diplomacy, law, and economics. Established on 23 September 1992 and operating under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the university plays a distinctive role in preparing highly qualified professionals for the country’s engagement with the international community.

    UWED combines academic excellence, policy relevance, language training, and research in key areas of global affairs. With programmes spanning international relations, international law, political science, economics and management, the university equips students with the analytical, professional, and intercultural competencies required in a rapidly changing world.

    Today, UWED is home to more than 5,320 students across undergraduate and graduate programmes and brings together a diverse academic community supported by experienced faculty, international cooperation, and visiting professors from leading institutions around the world.

    Main Tasks and Activities

    As set out in the UWED Charter, the university’s main tasks include:

    • educating highly qualified specialists in foreign policy, international cooperation, and foreign economic affairs;
    • strengthening analytical thinking, professional competence, and practice-oriented learning;
    • supporting the retraining and advanced professional development of personnel for public institutions;
    • advancing fundamental and applied research in international relations, diplomacy, and foreign economic development;
    • preparing academic and scientific-pedagogical personnel in priority areas of international studies;
    • developing professional interpretation, communication, and language skills for international engagement;
    • promoting innovation, expert dialogue, and cooperation with domestic and international partners;

    School of International Relations

    The School of International Relations offers undergraduate and graduate programmes in both international relations and political science. Its interdisciplinary curriculum combines the study of diplomacy, foreign policy, international security, regional studies, and global affairs with political analysis, governance, public policy, and contemporary political processes, supported by strong language preparation and practice-oriented learning.

    Its alumni serve in the Presidential Administration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomatic missions and embassies, international organisations, and leading policy and research centres in Uzbekistan and abroad.

    School of International Law

    The School of International Law delivers undergraduate and graduate programmes in jurisprudence, international law, and international business law. Students receive strong academic and practical preparation in public and private international law, comparative law, international legal regulation, and dispute resolution.

    Its alumni pursue careers in the Ministry of Justice, the Oliy Majlis, courts and other justice institutions, diplomatic service, human rights bodies, law firms, and international organisations.

    School of International Economics and Management

    Language Education

    Foreign language training is an integral part of UWED’s international academic profile.     Department of English

    The Department of English provides training in both General English and English for Specific Purposes (ESP), closely aligned with students’ academic specialisations in international relations, political science, law, and economics. Its courses include academic writing, diplomatic correspondence, business writing, legal writing, and professionally oriented English for future international specialists.

    The department uses learner-centred and practice-oriented teaching methods, including debates, simulations, role play, blended learning, and digital tools, to strengthen students’ professional communication skills in international contexts.

    Department of European and Turkic Languages

    The Department of European and Turkic Languages offers instruction in a range of European and Turkic languages, including French and German as major and second foreign languages, as well as Spanish, Italian, and Turkish.     The Institute of Advanced International Studies is an independent, international, and interdisciplinary research institute affiliated with UWED.
