On March 6, 2025, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) hosted a lecture by Professor David Green from the Graduate School of Law at Nagoya University (Japan) on the topic “International Migration and Immigration in Japan.”

During the lecture, key aspects of international migration, major theoretical approaches, as well as the historical development and modern trends in Japan’s immigration system were discussed. Professor Green provided an in-depth analysis of the two main types of migration  economic and humanitarian, highlighting the distinctive features of Japan’s immigration policy.

Additionally, the lecture covered the push-pull theory of migration, the dual labor market model, and migration patterns that emerged in the post-war period. Special attention was given to the growing foreign labor force in Japan, demographic shifts, and the challenges of migrant integration into Japanese society.

The lecture was conducted in an interactive format, allowing students to actively engage with the speaker and ask thought-provoking questions. Discussions focused on contemporary challenges in Japan’s immigration policy, its economic impact, and future prospects.

This lecture contributed to a deeper understanding of international migration processes, equipping students with an analytical perspective on global migration challenges from a theoretical and practical standpoint.
