Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Defends Dissertation at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy
On April 23 of this year, at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Hisang Kim, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan and current Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, successfully defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law.
The topic of the diplomat's scientific work was "Assessing the Prospects of the International Trade Regulation System: The World Trade Organization (WTO) and Regional Trade Agreements." The research was conducted under the scientific supervision of Doctor of Law, Professor G. Ismailova.
Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) represent a significant aspect of modern trade governance, serving as a tool for developing economic cooperation and facilitating trade among WTO member countries.
The dissertation presents practical policy recommendations aimed at improving the administration of RTAs within the WTO framework and promoting more effective and equitable regulation of international trade. The author also explored public participation in the development of trade agreements and ways to develop strategies that enable businesses to utilize them more effectively to their advantage.
A crucial aspect of the dissertation is the analysis of case studies, such as Korea's experience with trade liberalization mechanisms and dispute resolution, which forms a significant component of the research.
The defense of this dissertation by a high-ranking South Korean diplomat at the UWED serves as further evidence of the strengthening multifaceted cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea.
South Korea is assisting Uzbekistan in its process of joining the World Trade Organization. Notably, the permanent representatives of the Republic of Korea to the WTO are leading the working group established for Uzbekistan's accession to this international organization.
