Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization visited UWED

On March 6 of this year, a meeting with the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Nurlan Ermekbayev was held at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.
The event was attended by representatives of the Presidential Administration, the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in the country, media representatives, faculty and students of UWED.
The visit began with an official meeting of Nurlan Ermekbayev with the leadership of the UWED.
During this meeting, the prospects for cooperation of the university within the framework of SCO projects, as well as the expansion of opportunities for training qualified personnel in the field of international relations, were discussed.
As part of the visit, a round table was organized on the topic: “SCO and Uzbekistan: Strengthening Regional Cooperation,” at which the activities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, its role in modern world politics, as well as prospects for the further development of the organization were discussed.
First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Rector of the UWED Sodyq Safoev, opening the event, noted that the SCO countries account for more than 40 percent of the world's population and over a quarter of global GDP. In this context, he stressed that strengthening the cohesion of the "SCO family" will make it possible to make the most of the emerging opportunities, consistently implementing the principle of joint development.
The participants of the round table considered topical issues of economic cooperation, regional security, cultural and humanitarian interaction within the SCO.
Following the results of the interested dialogue, UWED students and teachers asked their questions to the SCO Secretary-General. Answering them, Nurlan Ermekbayev provided valuable information on how young professionals can contribute to the development of international cooperation. In particular, he noted that UWED, as one of the leading universities in this field, plays a key role in the formation of future diplomats and experts who will contribute to strengthening cooperation within the SCO and other international organizations.
This event has become a platform for the exchange of experience and ideas between SCO representatives, diplomats and the academic community, which contributes to the development of dialogue and mutual understanding between the member countries of the organization.
Following the visit of the SCO Secretary-General to the UWED, an agreement was reached to hold joint events, such as lectures, seminars and internships for students, which will help strengthen ties between the academic environment and the SCO.
