On February 26, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Uzbekistan Daniel Cristian Ciobanu visited the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.

First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Rector of the UWED Sodyq Safoev discussed with the Ambassador issues of further development of friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Romania. Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the field of education, in particular, the establishment of UWED partnerships with leading universities in Romania.

At the end of the meeting, the Ambassador delivered a lecture to the UWED students on the topic: "Cultural and public diplomacy as an integral element of diplomatic relations". First of all, he praised the dynamic development of Romanian-Uzbek relations in all areas, including the cultural sphere.

The diplomat dwelt separately on the work of the great Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi (February 19, 1876 - March 16, 1957), who became a pioneer of modernism and one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century, who is called the "patriarch of modern sculpture".

In honor of his outstanding services, in 2015, the Romanian parliament declared February 19 a holiday in the country - "Brancusi Day". Daniel Ciobanu told the students about such famous works of the sculptor as "Endless Column", "Table of Silence", "Gate of the Kiss" and "Bird in Space".

During his lecture, the Ambassador stressed the importance of an innovative approach in the field of public diplomacy. In this regard, he said that in 2021, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, he climbed to the top of Big Chimgan (3309 meters) and recorded a short video with congratulations. And in 2022, he climbed to the top of Hazrat Sultan (4083 meters) in the Kashkadarya region and also recorded a video in Uzbek with congratulations on the Independence Day of Uzbekistan.

The lecture of the head of the Romanian diplomatic mission aroused great interest among the audience.

On the same day, the teaching staff and students of the university had the opportunity to visit the photo exhibition "The Work of the Great Romanian Sculptor Constantin Brancusi", opened at the UWED.
