    On May 18 this year, a round table on the topic “Uzbekistan-Germany: a new stage of cooperation” was held at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.

    Senators, members of the parliamentary group of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on cooperation with the Bundestag, the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ambassadors of Germany in Uzbekistan and Uzbekistan in Germany, representatives of the Ebbert Foundation, the Eastern Committee of the German Economy, the Goethe Institute in Tashkent, the Berlin Museum of History, the Foundation development of culture and art of Uzbekistan, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the German cultural center Wiedergeburg, as well as the professors and students of UWED.

    Within the framework of the round table, a broad discussion took place on the results of the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Germany on May 2-3 this year, which opened up great prospects for further strengthening Uzbek-German cooperation.

    First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy Sodyq Safoev in his opening speech stressed that the visit of the head of Uzbekistan to Germany will certainly go down in history as a new stage in the development of the Uzbek-German strategic partnership, will open new horizons for cooperation between our country and European Union.

    He recalled that following the results of the summit, 16 documents were signed, including the Agreement on Financial Cooperation, the Declaration of the Joint Agreement on Strategic Cooperation for 2024-2030 and others. In particular, the Declaration notes the readiness of the two countries to expand cooperation on issues of security, development, human rights and regional integration. This document also indicates that in the light of the current large-scale geopolitical challenges, the intensification of cooperation is of particular importance.

    Member of the Board of the F.Ebbert Foundation, ex-Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr. Herta Doubler-Gmelin expressed satisfaction that against the backdrop of successful reforms in Uzbekistan, cooperation with Germany is becoming more dynamic.

    During the discussion, the participants of the event stated that Germany is the largest trade and investment partner of Uzbekistan among the EU countries.

    Representatives of the German side drew attention to the statement of President Sh. Mirziyoyev about Uzbekistan’s readiness to become an effective and reliable platform for German business in the new realities of large-scale and serious shocks in the global economy.

    In this context, the unprecedented scale of the agreements reached as a result of the business forum, which took place during the visit of the head of Uzbekistan to Germany, was especially noted.

    The participants of the round table focused on the significant role of the leadership of Uzbekistan in creating an atmosphere of peace, trust and partnership in Central Asia, which has become the key to sustainable development of the region.

    The high dynamics of bilateral cultural and humanitarian cooperation received a positive assessment. In recent years, interest in the study of German culture and the German language has grown in Uzbekistan. Another evidence of the growing interest in Germany in Uzbek history and culture was the large number of visitors to the exhibition “Archaeological Treasures of Uzbekistan. From Alexander the Great to the Kushan Empire in Berlin, which opened as part of the summit.

    Summing up the results of the discussion, the participants of the round table at UWED were unanimous that the dialogue between Uzbekistan and Germany is moving to a completely new level of constructive and mutually beneficial partnership, which opens up great prospects for multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
