On February 16 of this year, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy Sodyq Safoev and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Science, Education and Health Affairs Odiljon Iminov met with members of the delegation headed by Chong Chun Suk, chairman of the Health and Social Welfare Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.
During the meeting, the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Korea, as well as the development of inter-parliamentary relations, were discussed.
It should be noted that during the last 5 years bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Korea have risen to a new strategic level in terms of quality. Currently, relations with the Republic of Korea are developing in almost all areas, including inter-parliamentary cooperation. In particular, the commission of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis on cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and the “Korea-Uzbekistan” inter-parliamentary friendship association are working effectively in order to exchange experience in the field of law-making and control activities, and to strengthen parliamentary control over the implementation of agreements reached at a high level.
During the dialogue, opinions were exchanged on new projects in the field of health care, including the establishment of new clinics in cooperation, the launch of pharmaceutical clusters, and the provision of regional medical institutions with advanced techniques.
As part of the visit of the head of our state to the Republic of Korea on December 16-18, 2021, the intergovernmental agreement signed in the presence of the leaders of the two countries in the field of health provided an impetus to bring the work in this direction to a qualitatively new level.
It should be noted that a number of projects in the field of healthcare are being implemented in cooperation with the Republic of Korea. In particular, the construction of the Children’s National Medical Center worth more than 130 million dollars on the basis of the Baum Corporation project in our capital with the support of this country is of particular importance. Currently, many projects are being implemented in cooperation with the Korea International Health Foundation (KOFIH). They cover, among other things, important directions in the field of health and medical personnel training, improvement of the qualifications of specialists in the field, improvement of diagnostics of various diseases.
During the conversation, measures taken to ensure gender equality and protection of women’s rights and interests in our country, as well as achievements in this direction, were noted.
At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to further expand the inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries, to continue the mutually beneficial cooperation.
