On November 16, 2023, a roundtable discussion was held at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy on the topic of “The role of civil society institutions in providing legal aid to the population and improving its legal literacy”.
The event was organized by the All-National Movement “Yuksalish” together with the University of World Economy and Diplomacy and the Notarial Chamber of Uzbekistan as part of the “Civil Society Week”.
In our country, the task of raising the level of legal literacy of the population and providing free legal aid has been effectively set. As a result, citizens are provided with primary free legal aid by providing legal advice and explanations.
During the roundtable discussion, representatives of state bodies providing legal services to the population, non-governmental non-profit organizations providing free legal aid, and representatives of broad segments of the public analyzed the state of legal literacy of the population of Uzbekistan. Problems and difficulties faced by non-governmental organizations in providing free legal aid were also discussed, and proposals were put forward to raise legal awareness of the population and expand the opportunities for obtaining free legal aid.
At the event, data were presented on the experience of the legal clinic established at the Tashkent State Law University, as well as on the activities of the legal clinic of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in training and providing free legal aid to segments of the population in need of social protection.
As is known, the Ministry of Justice’s legal information portal “Advice.uz” (e-maslahat.uz) was launched by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In addition, the non-governmental non-profit organization “Madad”, the information system “Legal Aid”, and the All-National Movement “Yuksalish” provide legal assistance to the population. Within the framework of the projects, a presentation of the Social Center opened in Tashkent for young people aged 18 to 35 was presented on the practice and results of providing legal and psychological counseling to the population.
At the end of the event, further steps were identified to expand the participation of civil society in providing legal aid to the population.
