On February 19 of this year, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, as part of the JICA Chair program, was visited by the head of the representative office of this organization in Uzbekistan, BITO Yoshibumi and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan Hatori Takashi.

The guests were met by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy Sodyq Safoev.

During the meeting, a discussion took place on the prospects for further strengthening Uzbek-Japanese relations, as well as the development of partnership between the JICA representative office and the university.

S. Safoev noted that Japan’s experience in modernizing high-quality public administration is very important for the further development of our country. He recalled that the university has been successfully implementing student exchange programs with leading educational institutions in Japan for many years, in addition, volunteer Japanese language teachers are successfully working through JICA.

In turn, the head of the JICA representative office in Uzbekistan BITO Yoshibumi expressed gratitude for the activities of the recently opened Japanese Scientific Analytical Center at UWED.

The Ambassador of Japan to Uzbekistan Hatori Takashi emphasized that Japan considers regional cooperation between the countries of Central Asia, including Uzbekistan, important, in particular within the framework of the “Central Asia + Japan” dialogue platform initiative.

The parties expressed their readiness to further expand bilateral cooperation in order to strengthen friendly relations between the countries.

At the end of the meeting, the opening of the JICA Chair event took place.

Professor of the University of Tsukuba Timur Dadabaev spoke to UWED students on the topic: “The Japanese miracle: institutional factors of rapid economic growth (1955-1975)”. He spoke about the development of the Japanese economy after World War II, which went down in history as the “Japanese economic miracle”. The lecture aroused great interest among students. Professor T. Dadabaev answered questions, then a discussion and exchange of views took place.
